*We're writing our opinions about food advertisements. What are features of an advertisement? Why do you prefer certain ads over others?
Success Criteria
-select a food advertisement
-identify the product
-use 3 strong reasons to support your opinion
-present your opinion and justification clearly
Math
*We continue to solve word problems. The big idea is to use strategies to solve. Strategies we've used in the class include working backwards, make a table/chart, guess and check, I.C.E. (illustration, calculation, explanation), use manipulatives and following the 4-step method (see below).
THE PROBLEM SOLVING CHECKLIST:
-read problem and underline the question
-frame key words/numbers
-solve by using pictures/chart
-solve by showing calculation/s
-solve by explaining your answer using math vocabulary
-check your calculations
*We've also been performing transformations in geometry. Look at the tessellation patterns below.
How do these artists create tessellations? What transformations are used to make a tesselation?
Where can you find examples of tessellations in the world around you? At home? In nature?

*We will use technological problem-solving skills to DESIGN, BUILD, AND TEST stable structures.
What types of forces act upon structures?
Tension pulls
Compression pushes
How do we build structures to withstand the forces?

*Artist and Dub Poet Michael St. George is visiting us on Friay February 10, 2012.
Think of an open-ended question to ask him.
What inspires you to create and perform poetry?
When do you like to read/write poetry best? Why?
How can poetry be used to encourage peace and equality in the world?
What effects can poetry have on people?
Now, think about or create your own poem that focuses on SOUND, RHYTHM, METAPHOR, or has a STRONG MESSAGE. That is Dub Poetry. The way the words sound and how they're spoken is important!
*Report Cards are going home on Monday February 13, 2012. Parent interview forms distributed Thursday February 9, 2012. Interviews for Thursday February 16, 2012 or Friady February 17, 2012.
I chose the math problem solving question. D'Wayne had 27 marbles at the beginning, because if he lost 2 in the first game, and 4 in the second that means he lost 6 in total. So if he won 8 that means he had 27 in total because 2+4=-6 6-8=2 2+25=27
ReplyDeleteQ:When do you like to read/write poetry best? Why?
ReplyDeleteI like to read poetry when I`m sad or lonely. It`s because sometimes poetry encourages me and makes me feel PINK.
D'wayne had 24 marbles before he started to play marbles with his friends because he lost 2 marbles in the first game and he lost 4 marbles in the second game becausee 2 times 2 = 4. So I added 2 by 4 which eaquls 6 and then I added 6+25=31. Then I subtract 31 by 8 =24 because D'wayne won 8 marbles in the last game. So on the beginning D'wayne had 24 marbles.
ReplyDeleteI chose the math transformation question. The Architecture artist used all of the transformations, which is translation(slide),reflection(flip)and rotation(turn).
ReplyDeleteTo Michael st. George
ReplyDeleteDear Michael,
I liked your presantation, and I have a question for you. It is : Why do you like dub poetry more than regular one? I like normal poetry better because it is descriptive and I see a picture in my mind.
sinserely,
Simon
Looks like there's a new student in our class!
ReplyDeleteIn India, it is very hot.Over here ,there are holidays going on
in schools because the students of grade 10 and up have there board
exams.I wish i could spend these holidays with you guys.
The strategy I used was doing the question backwards. For me, my answer is 27 because D'Wayne ended the game with 25 marbles, so I need to add 8(because he won 8 marbles) which it equals 33 marbles, then subtract 2(because he lost 2 marbles) which it equals 31 and then subtract 4(because he lost twice as much as last round) which all sums it up to 27 marbles.
ReplyDeletemy answer is 23 becuase dwane lost 2 that equils 21 then he lost 4 that equels 17 then he won 8 that equils 25 marbles.
ReplyDeleteso the anwer is 23marbles.
