SPACE JUNK RE-ENTERED EARTH’S ATMOSPHERE
ReplyDeleteBus-sized fragments from a 6.3 tonne satellite fell to Earth on Friday and Saturday. It was called the Upper Atmosphere Research Satellite. It was sent into space in 1991. Its job was to collect information about chemicals in the atmosphere. It has not been usable since 2005. 26 pieces of satellite weighing up to 135 kilograms survived the re-entry into Earth’s atmosphere. NASA tracked as many pieces of the satellite so they could find out where they would land. They know that they would land in parts of Canada and parts of Africa. The most important piece of information in the article is that in the 50 years of the space program, fragments did not fall from space and injured anyone.
